FORM, FUNCTION, FRUGALITY!!..& pretty too

I recently gave our youngest daughters little table & chair set away and we were left with a blank space that needed a little something.  I was "THIS" close to purchasing a console cabinet for the space.  I was looking for storage for all of her craft supplies while also providing a table top for decor or serving wine etc when hosting a party.  Instead of spending almost $500 on that console, I came up with this idea and with help from my husband, it worked out just right.....We had everything we needed except the  decorative trim so it was almost a no cost project!!

BEFORE:  Blank wall/space

My husband added 2 MDF shelves, one for storage and one for the console top that I painted with some Annie Sloan Old White

I used what containers we had for storing all of her craft & school supplies.
After the paint dried, I made a pleatedd skirt out of drop cloth to hide the "mess/storage"

TADA!!!...COMPLETE!!

A little Christmas decor...

I hot glued trim to hide the staples...

Loving my Trader Joe's Rosemary tree!!

Thanks for visiting & please come back soon...
lots more Christmas decor to share!!

AT THE BEACH HOUSE: the wall over the bed

After thinking about how to decorate the wall above the cane headboard for the last two years, I was finally inspired by a photo layout in Family Circle magazine ....I'm so pleased with the result...here's my version...

This was another old window from our "burb" house...the shelf is new, but I roughed it up a bit with a sanding block.

I love the iron scroll brackets!  The spa colored bird is also iron...both of these items were gifts from 2 great friends..:)

Small mercury glass votive cups with battery operated votive candles purchased from Pier 1.

I think when I return to the beach, I may add some branches to the enamel pitcher for some texture.

Thanks so much for stopping by!!

ADDING TEXTURE TO A NEUTRAL SPACE

Hi Friends...Winding down on a wonderful summer at the beach house....It is amazing how texture adds to a space when decorating with all neutrals...take a look at our recently added area rugs and bamboo roman shades...
Happy Summer...yes, it's still summer!!!
This was our dining area without an area rug or window shades...
and this is after...what a difference...

Our open concept floor plan...also added a jute area rug in the family room area...

I am loving these shades with the trim...it is feeling really good to be finishing up...at least this room...more to come...
